PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT ABLE TO SHIP EGGS! EGGS MUST BE PICKED UP AT ONE OF OUR PICKUP LOCATIONS!

Our hens live on pasture 365 days per year with the freedom to forage for seeds, bugs, worms, and plants. We supplement our hens with a custom milled Non GMO, Corn and Soy FREE feed ration. At night they roost in their mobile pasture coops.

PEOPLE OFTEN ASK - WHAT DO YALL FEED THE HENS AND HOW DO YOU GET THOSE ORANGE YOLKS?

Our hens forage heavily on the pasture. This means that seeds, grasshoppers, field mice, and other insects and plants are a significant part of their diet (Joel Salatin esimates up to 30% of the hens feed intake can come from pasture foraging). Additionally we offer a free choice, custom milled ration that is NON GMO and CORN/SOY FREE. See complete ingredient list below.

Our orange yolks are a direct result of the concentration of carotenoids (namely the class of carotenoids called Xanthophylls) present in the hens' diet. In addition to as much green pasture as we can provide (late summer and winter generally aren't green in Brenham) we mix Alfalfa, Marigold and Paprika which are all very rich in natural carotenoids into our feed ration to achieve a consistently orange yolk. No weird tricks, no food coloring, just carotenoid dense feed!

COMPLETE LAYER FEED INGREDIENT LIST: Sorghum, Wheat, Calcium, Alfalfa, Canola Meal, Sunflower Meal, Mineral Mix, Sunflower Oil, Marigold, Paprika, Lactobacillus (Probiotics), L-Lysine (essential amino acid), L-Threonine (essential amino acid)

WHAT ARE Y'ALL FEEDING THOSE BIRDS?

Good question! A large part of what our hens eat comes from our pastures. Bugs, worms, grasses, other plants (think turnips, clover, vetch, rye grass, oats), you name it! We NEVER spray our pastures with herbicides or pesticides and we NEVER use antibiotics or hormones! To ensure that our birds always have the proper nutrition we also supplement them with a custom milled Non GMO, Soy Free feed. Our feed ration also includes a mix of vitamins/minerals and probiotics to keep our birds feeling great!

HOW DO Y'ALL GET THOSE ORANGE YOLKS?

Yolk color is determined by the hen's diet. Orange yolks are the result of a diet that is rich in the class of Carotenoids known as Xanthophylls. Foods that are high in this particular type of Carotenoid include Alfalfa, Kale, Marigold, Turnips, Spinach, Paprika, Beets, etc! We put in a lot of extra work to ensure that our birds have lots of leafy greens to eat on the pasture but we also ensure that their supplemental feed ration is high in these nutrients!
